If you are a fan of Gus Van Sant films, you will enjoy this moody, brooding film about severe depression in the face of fame. The film has wonderful texture, mood and setting. Not a lot of dialogue in the film, a lot of long solitary scenes of the main singer very high on drugs, trying to stay creative for the band. I can see how this film might be boring to some viewers, but if you have the stamina to stay with the film, you might find it ultimately rewarding, in a manner of speaking. All of Gus Van Sant's films have a gay aesthetic and appreciate and attention to the male form.

Mumble, mumble... Introspective talking-to-oneself is normal at times but to build a movie's main character on almost inaudible speech (I had to use the subtitles) is arcane and self-serving. I'm sure the last days of Kurt Cobain would make for a fine dramatic presentation but this ain't it.

This is a terribly slow and painful movie to watch -- I would have preferred to watch paint dry.
