“But there’s something ever bigger that I gotta show you that really spooked me when I saw it.” -- Rick Larson – on finding at least one meaning of Revelation chapter 12’s “Woman clothed with the sun and the moon at her feet”

“I looked up at the sky, and I said, ‘My God, what DID You do?’ Because this is poetry of terrible beauty. It showed me a side of God that I had not seen. It showed me a God that - would write poetry to record both the coming and the passing of My Messiah - and He let me find it.” – Rick Larson, in “The Star of Bethlehem,” on finding that the moon was back at the foot of the Virgin, and that the moon went into eclipse at the moment of Christ’s passing on the Cross.

What was the Star of Bethlehem? Was it a real historical event, or something early Christians made up, or something else? How could any star move or stop the way the Bible says it did? Though many have pondered these things over the last two thousand years since these happenings, only now has it become possible to enable someone to see back in time with astronomy software. Rick Larson, a law professor long deeply interested in the Star did just that. Spending years looking at times and places and features of the sky, he gave his findings and began to find others who were interested too. This DVD shows what he found. Those of faith may find gold here not available to others without. But all –whether Christian or skeptic, doubter, or agnostic, may find something here provided their minds are open to what is revealed. Besides Christ’s birth, Larson also looked for the signs in the sky at the time Christ died - on the Passover. He was able to go behind the scenes, to dip below the horizon and to find things that astonished him and others. “The Star of Bethlehem” is visually compelling film with a powerful score good for the whole family. Parents may want to screen first, more to be able to explain children's questions than due to violence. However, there are some very brief shots of the crucifixion. Co-Produced by Larson and Stephen McEveety. McVeety also produced "The Passion of the Christ." Great score by composer Julie Larson, who has a brief "Bonus" feature. "The Star of Bethlehem" is about 65 minutes long. Be sure to see the Bonus Feature "Revealing the Ram," an about 2-minute look at what happened in the sky at the moment Christ died. The Star's movie Website is www.bethlehemstarmovie.com . On that site are quotes from NASA scientists who have endorsed this film. I will quote some of them in my summary. Rick Larson also has his own Website, rich in more detail, with quotes and answers to questions worthy of exploration at www.bethlehemstar.net. Happy seeking.

After turning down a neighbor boy’s offer to decorate his yard, Rick Larson began putting the Magi (“wise men”) in his yard for Christmas. But what was the Star they followed? Curious for years, he finally investigated using astronomy software that helped him look back in time, and found things he’d never dreamed of. After years of research, he presented his findings to a small group. Jaws dropped. Then to a larger group. Then, he began to be invited around the world. Eventually, his presentation was put in this DVD. Now in 20 countries. Spanish subtitles, or use closed captioning for English subtitles. 65 minutes. A superb film for the whole family. For comments from scientists and others see Rick Larson’s Website: http://www.bethlehemstar.net/ (under “About” click “What Others are Saying”). Here are some other quotes from there and from his home page: “A convincing case...a mystery solved,” Former Director, NASA Dryden Flight Research Center. “This explanation of the Star is compelling...” NASA's Chief Engineer for the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station. "About 99.9% of the Star of Bethlehem stuff is nutty, but this isn’t that. It’s well-researched and reasonable.”— Ronald A. Schorn, Ph.D. “Wide-ranging and insightful scholarship” a former President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His site has more information about The Star and an e-mail sign-up list. Great DVD for Christmas or any time of year. Note that it deals both with Christ's birth and His death.
