"Seven graduate students are recruited by a microbiology start-up and dispatched to a mysterious lab in Hawaii. There they are promised access to tools that will open a whole new scientific frontier. But once in the Oahu rain forest, the scientists are thrust into a hostile wilderness where they find themselves prey to a technology of radical and unbridled power. I agree - it would be interesting to see where the second author took over from Crichton.
I found the story to be too long - too much detail - too gory in parts. It could have been condensed and not made too much difference to the story. Great for anyone who wants the close up details of insects in Hawaii and their destructive behaviour. Why did the author kill off so many of the characters??? I am surprised that there was anyone left by the end of the book!!

I read Michael Crichton's Micro back when it was first on PCPL's Express shelf, and I immediately loved it. As usual, Crichton's thorough research illuminates the reader's view through the dark roller coaster ride that is his writing, giving both insight into the story and to our daily lives. Don't skip this one! Even though Preston doesn't quite nail Crichton's voice the entire time, it is still worth a read.

I can't understand why he's no longer with us and I still am. How could one man accomplish so much in his short time with us is amazing. To have time to write SEVEN books while being an honors student at Harvard Med School?? That just proves how inadequate the rest of us are.

I liked this book. Nanotechnology is with us now in our shampoo and so many other products. We need to think and know what it's implications are because we instantly absorb these products into our bodies…What are they doing to us? Will they turn us into…???

I thought this story was fascinating. I've never thought about life at the micro level, and I always walk away from his books feeling like I've learned something. It might not be the best Crichton book ever, but judged on its own merit it was quite good.

This is the first novel I have read where Crichton disappointed me.

I found it initially hard to get into this book as it's very much a mans story (not much character development) but once people started getting killed off you can't help but get sucked in. Bit of a disappointing end but maybe that's because I wanted it to keep going! How is this not a movie? It'd make an amazing CGI feast for the eyes (...no pun intended!)

It would be interesting to know exactly where the second author took over. This started out as a promising story, but the change in authorship is quite obvious in the second half of the book, and sadly there doesn't appear to have been much attempt to stick to Crichton's style. An average read

I thought it was good, but I agree with another commenter that you have to suspend disbelief to not get annoyed with some of it - in that way, there was definitely room for improvements.

It kept my attention, although I wouldn't rank it as one of Crichton's better books. As always, however, he is very prescient - already I'm reading about micro-drone technologies (although not developed in the manner laid out in this book).
