I would read anything by Helen Dewitt, just to see what her brilliant mind is up to. Her satirical vision of the future of relationships between men and women in the workplace is stunningly and hilariously prescient. It's also, in case it needs saying, a satirical comment on how men view sex and how women have learned to accommodate that view.

I imagine it's easier to read in the context of 2018 sexual politics than it might have been when it was first published in 2011 or first submitted to a publisher (and rejected) years previously. I read this almost the way I would watch a slow motion trip and fall unfolding before me, without being able to do one thing to prevent it from happening. Somehow, she manages to take the novel's conceit to its logical conclusion.

Offensive. Especially toward women.

Well-written satire of modern America. Takes many values to their logical extension, making them seem crazy! Weird and vividly imagined!

Hilarious, dead-pan satire of, well just about every aspect of American life; completely, refreshingly amoral and transgressive.
