Set in the mid-1950s, "The World of Suzie Wong" is a beautifully written time capsule of a novel. First published more than 50 years ago, it resonated with readers worldwide, inspiring a film, a ballet, and even a reggae song.

I kept hoping that this book would get better and it didn't. I found the characters boring and dull. The dialogue seemed uninspired. I found it hard to believe that it became a play and movie. Maybe in 1957 it was considered novel. I was hoping for more history of the time and how post war, post revolution changed the lives of women in Hong Kong. Not the best reading value.
