"Columbia medical student Pia Grazdani is working closely with molecular geneticist Dr. Tobias Rothman on cutting-edge research that could create replacement organs for the critically ill. When tragedy strikes in the supposedly secure lab, Pia and classmate George Wilson investigate. Meanwhile, two ex-Wall Street whiz kids race to find ways to control actuarial data and securitize the policies of the aged and infirm for profit. As Pia and George dig deeper, one question remains unanswered: Is someone attempting to manipulate private insurance information to allow investors to benefit from the deaths of others?"--P. Actually, there's nothing particularly original with Cook's plot; banks and financial services companies have long been securitizing insurance policies, with AIG and JPMorgan Chase leading the way - - they are called mortality derivatives, q-Forwards, etc., and they even have indexes which track their performance.

I couldn't finish this book and I've read most of Robin Cook's other works. It was too dark with both the good guys and the bad guys. I didn't find it enjoyable. I hope his next one is better. I already have it on hold.

This book starts off with some promise and a bit of intrigue, but there isn't a whole lot of closure at the end. There's the usual over-the-top bad rich guy, and if it's set in New York there's a predictable appearance by some recurring characters (which was a stretch). The ending felt like Cook was trying to wrap it up and make his deadline. It's entertaining enough, but not "Wow!"
