A quick, enjoyable read with some very touching animal interactions and life lessons. Each chapter recounts an experience the author had with an animal on her sanctuary and is followed by a description of the lesson(s) she learned. The author was raised as a Quaker, so there are some mystical nature hippie-chick ideas tucked in (animal names and guidance come to her in dreams, for example.) But regardless of your spirituality all of these lessons contain universally applicable wisdom and simple truths. Definitely a book for animal lovers. I found it to be very uplifting.

This is a nice story about someone who takes in a few farmed animals, but I would recommend The Blind Horse Sings, Animal Camp, or Farm Sanctuary as being better reads. Unfortunately, the author drones on and on about supranatural phenomena, which was a waste of words on me.
The one strength this book has is the chapter about a 700-bird laying-hen rescue done by another sanctuary, which I found rivetting.
