More soapy drama than actual history. The greed of empire, horrror of human starvation, and dehumanization due to class boundries are definately dummed down.

A good movie and a good lesson in history

I really was looking forward to watching this miniseries. However, the sound on this is TERRIBLE. It sounds like it was recorded in the bottom of a well. Lots of echos and VERY hard to understand. Even with the subtitles on, the sound was very irritating. I could not get through more than 20 minutes of this. I even skipped ahead to see if the sound got any better.

this was a TV series about 20 years ago. It was quite good.
