My 10 year old really enjoyed the stories. He's gone back to re-read them a couple of times after devouring the book the first day I brought it home.
We'll try the others in the series too. They are all stand alone books and stories.

I am not a graphic novel reader. I ordered this book because I liked the cover and thought it was a junior novel. My son is a graphic novel reader so we both read it and this is our combined review.

I like anthologies because it gives you a way to read new authors without having to read or buy an entire book by them. This book has 7 different stories by 7 different authors all linked by the theme of the Mystery Box. It is interesting to see how each author interprets this theme. I enjoyed the many different style of the authors. The best stories were:
Under the Floorboards by Emily Carroll
A girl finds a wax doll in a box under the floor boards. The doll helps her with her chores, but soon becomes jealous of the praise the little girl gets for doing better work and becomes a menace...
The Keeper's Treasure by Jason Caffoe
A young man sets out on a journey to find hidden treasure. He meets up with the Keeper of the treasure who leads him to the treasure box. But is what is inside the true treasure?
Whatzit by Johane Matte
Deet must inventory boxes for a Grand Exhibition. But his coworkers decide to play a trick on him and put an unknown box in the mix. Chaos erupts. But Deet gets his own back in the end...

I enjoyed the illustrations of most of these stories. This book has very good color quality. Even though this is not my usual genre, I had a few laughs and enjoyed the stories. The book is advertized for age 9 and up which I found to be age appropriate.

Kazu Kibuishi edits and contributes one evocative, open-ended story to this Amulet-related anthology. Explorer: The Mystery Boxes features 7 tales in a wide range of art and storytelling styles. Great intro to new authors and artists.
