While researching means of powering a NASA space colony, Kirk Sorensen stumbles across ORNL's Thorium Molten Salt Reactor. History of this design is recounted as well as the politics (and lack of weaponizable byproduct) which killed it. Discussing energy alternatives, the capacity of solar/wind renewable is examined. The Molten Salt Reactor offers us a choice between future of abundant clean energy, and a future in which we continue to wage wars over dwindling fossil fuel resources.

If you believe that wind and solar will wean the human race from its addiction to fossil fuels, this documentary by Kirk Sorensen and Gordon MacDowell is a must see. It amazes me that such a superb result came out of such an obviously tiny budget. Thorium Remix outlines the sad history of how the nuclear power industry got derailed during the 1960's and makes a convincing case for what might have been had thorium molten salt reactors not been sidelined in the quest to breed Plutonium. There is plenty of historical coverage of the pioneering efforts of three geniuses: Glen Seeborg, Eugene Wigner and Alvin Weinberg. Kirk Sorensen doesn't shrink from ridiculing Green advocates and their half-baked energy theories and arguments and exposes the lack of intelligent discussion in Britain's House of Lords and the Green Party. I'm hardly surprised that the original 10 library DVDs are now down to only 3 copies in the VPL system; I would have thought that Suzuki's elves and sprites would have diligently trashed the remaining disks by now.
