"Brears and Lamper, two young and cocky FBI agents, investigate a fresh series of ritual murders somehow tied to the final undercover assignment of Aldo Sax-- the once golden boy of the Bureau, now a convicted killer and inmate of a maximum security prison. From their interrogation of Sax (where he spoke exclusively in inhuman tongues) to a related drug raid on a seedy rock club rife with arcane symbols and otherworldly lyrics, they suspect that they are on the trail of something awful-- but nothing can prepare them for the creeping insanity and unspeakable terrors they will face in the small harbor town of Innsmouth"--P. The story itself is really cool and interesting, in fact, the only reason why I gave it this low of a rating is because of all the sex. I know that sex can be used to make people uncomfortable and add to creepiness and make it more upsetting, however, I still find that there was to much. It goes beyond making the reader uncomfortable and starts making you feel embarrassed, like you're reading gross smut.

As a longtime lover of Lovecraft's work, I have never before seen a more faithful adaptation of his style and distinctive lurking horror than this. Little wonder, since it's Alan Moore. As prior comments indicate, bring a strong stomach and thick skin, this pulls no punches.

This is an abusive of Lovecraft. This is the problem with 80% of so called Lovecraft fan fiction. They aren't true Lovecraftian fans so they focus on Cthulhu and the breeding. This comic is just a chance for Alan Moore to put in a forced sex scene. If you notice, almost all of his comic books have a sex scene and a ton of them have sexual assault or forced sex scenes. Alan Moore clearly has not read more then a few Lovecraftian stories because he abuses the most popular Lovecraftian myths to twist into his story about a bunch of perverted sex freaks. The only thing he does get right is in the end, the creature just tears them apart, which it would more likely do then breed with a bunch of inbred idiots. Please, if you are going to write a Lovecraftian tale, spend at least 3-4 months reading and digesting Lovecraft, don't just watch the damned movie and think you know what to do. If you want real Lovecraftian fan fiction, check out brian lumley. ATTENTION: This has violent sex in it, so if you are phased by this, do not read this comic.

DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT eat Chinese food while reading this book. Mid way through I just about threw up my lo mein noodles. But it was totally worth it cause this book is AWESOME! If you are a Lovecraft, Moore or horror fan, then you have to pick this up. If only it was an on-going series! One can only wish...

I never thought I'd give Alan Moore less than 4.75 stars. This book was such a disappointment. Compare the unfolding of the plot in The Courtyard to the novice storytelling of Neonomicon. Slapped together, rushed out, worth skipping.

This book accomplished its mission of providing Cthulu with a modern origin story as well as completely creeping me out for a short period. I'm glad the creators didn't shy away from the sexual aspects of the story.
