Meet the Gallaghers. Mom went AWOL years ago. Dad stayed home with the six children only to hit the bottle, and sometimes the kids. The real head of the family is big sister Fiona, who looks after Carl, Debbie and baby Liam. She is occasionally helped, more often hindered, by streetwise "Lip" and the actively gay, but very private, Ian.

A 2004 British working class comedy centered around a family of six children headed up by resourceful teen Fiona whose dad was a drunk and mom a MIA. Many outrageous and raw situations ... but it worked because it is a comedy !

Took me an entire season to get used to the characters and the situations but I love the first three series. The fourth series features the Maguires more than the Gallaghers and the show goes from funny / edgy to boring / ugly so I stopped watching.Too bad -- it's smart, darkly funny and has some great acting series 1-3.

Excellent British comedy/drama that pushes boundaries. Some will find the sex, substance abuse, and social situations distasteful, but many more will love the show for its daring approach and biting humor. I hope EPL will be able to add a few more seasons to its collection.

I actually watched the US version first and I enjoyed it so much I figured I would like the original even more, well I love them both. The acting is good and the storylines are amazing. While this is definitely not a show for everyone as there is lots of sex, drugs and profanity. I would still recommend too at least give it a chance. Great show for fans of extremely dark comedies. You can also watch the first four seasons of this on hulu for free.

I had to turn it off almost immediately. It was far too inappropriate for me. Too bad because I might have liked it if they took all the graphic scenes out.

Steve: About 90% of this world's problems are caused by little words that come in pairs. We're healthy and we're happy... Yet when anybody asks us, we say "not bad".

Steve: Hey Debbie, why do they call him Lip?
Lip: A. You stink, B. You're not as funny as you think you are and C. You whacked a bouncer, so you're gonna be dead soon so it's pointless getting to know you.
Carl Gallagher: Stuff like that.
Steve: Stuff like that yeah, boy meets death wish.

The story of a young group of siblings pretty much abandoned by their parents, surviving by their wits - and humor - on a rough Manchester council estate. Whilst they won't admit it, they need help and find it in Steve, a young middle class lad who falls for Fiona, the oldest sibling, and increasingly finds himself drawn to this unconventional and unique family. Anarchic family life seen through the eyes of an exceptionally bright fifteen year old, who struggles to come of age in the context of his belligerent father, closeted brother, psychotic sister and internet porn star neighbors.
