Luce diagnoses factors behind the country's waning global leadership such as the shrinking middle class; an ineffective and flawed educational system; the stagnation of innovation in business and technology; a bloated and inefficient bureaucracy; the virulent polarization of national politics; and the damage caused by the influence of money in politics, along with endless campaigning. In the end, he assesses the prospects for change and offers a bleak outlook.

Another commentary from one of the Washington's beltway elites, but, in this case quite enlightening. We learn the Military (far from being warmongers) are in fact populated with highly insghtful types who view America's power not from a military standpoint; but, from an economic one. Further suggesting a 20% cut to military speinding and a focus on infrasctructure, education, R&D etc to get America back in charge economically. Also, a highly connected intellectual, businesss leader asserts: ".... I feel genuinely embarassed at how arrogant we were". as he relates the past 40-50 years America fostered:
-the economic restreat of the state worldwide.
-free trade
-degregulation (including capital markets)
-strict fiscal balancing and accomodative monetary policy
all without consideration of the local history and character of the coutries they were
forcing to do their bidding.

Business leaders are not solvers of social problems, they meet targets is all.

The teapartyers really do hate those who read, seek knowledge and try to understand. Equating all to those people runnning wall street; which is a wrong headed assessment if ever there was one.
