Pretty cool flick but kinda' left me "hanging" in an apparent attempt to get me to watch the sequel.

"First Squad" takes place in 1942. It tells the story of a supposed female psychic named Nadya, who loses her friends during a shooting from the Germans. The German army desires to gain back their control, so they resort to summoning warrior spirits to fight for them in the war. Since regular humans are not trained for or capable of fighting these forces, it is up to Nadya to visit the world in which the dead lives and recruit her dead friends to help her fight against these spirits.

My thoughts were that it was very unique, considering the fact that this was a Japanese Russian anime film production. At a first glance I thought that it was going to mimic some aspects of world history, but instead, it kinda surprised me when the film showed a sense of magic and supernaturalism. My only qualms with the film was that is was a little too short for me (only lasting 1 hour), and that I didn't exactly appreciate the ending. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the film.

Very entertaining, I liked the period setting of the Russian Front in WW2 where Nazi occultists battle Russian paranormals. It looked very nice and could easily have been longer. I'd like to see more of this. The Japanese Russian coproduction worked out very nicely.

Fairly entertaining but nothing special.
