This history of involuntary servitude of mostly African-Americans in the South after the Civil War is unknown by most American whites. They do not know that it existed all the way to WWII when it was ended by FDR so that the war against Hitler could be won. In his documentary, we find that innocent Blacks could be picked up in the South, imprisoned, and then rented out to famous companies like US Steel for sums like $12 a month. In some locations, this form of slavery meant literally working to death in mines where the death rate was 30-40%. This truly one of America’s dirty little secrets.
