At Yellow Lake is a good book, but there were a few problems with it. Peter, Jonah, and Etta have all found their way to a cabin at Yellow Lake, owned by Peter’s family, for different reasons. Etta is on the run from her Mom’s criminal boyfriend, Peter is burying a lock of his mother’s hair, which she asked him to do before she died of cancer, and Jonah is trying to get in touch with his Ojibwe side. They all end up in the same spot at the cabin, and discover that a gang of criminals is using the cabin. I was interested in the way it was narrated. It flips between the three main characters, but Etta narrates in first person and Peter and Jonah narrate in third person. One thing that annoyed me is that for most of the action in the book, the characters are separated and the narration is following someone else. During almost the entire climax, whenever something happens we are somewhere else. It was an interesting book.
