Bright Eyes returns with the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2007 release Cassadaga. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People's Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which leader Conner Oberst is renowned.

I personally feel that the People's Key is underrated and the most cohesive Bright Eyes record since Lifted. Conor Oberst's songwriting is mired in spirituality on this one, and it makes for a fascinating listen. Buddhism, Christianity, Paganism, Rastafarianism, and more all play a part, and the spiritual elements are addressed from a position of both skeptic ("Shell Games") and seeker ("Beginner's Mind"). It also features some of the catchiest tunes in the whole Bright Eyes catalog.
