I hate to disparriage anything, but I'd avoid this book because there's nothing that sets it apart from any other generic, let's-get-schools-to-buy-our-books-in-bulk textbooks out there.

The audio is also mind-numbingly dull, with a clearly-bored, monotone narrator, recorded with lots of background noise and static. The dialog is also presented in a janky manner that is annoying to listen to, and the only time you can uninterupted native dialog is once or twice at the end of a few-minute-long MP3 at the end of each chapter.

Please avoid this book.

Interesting as a phrasebook or for someone who is not a complete beginner. Cultural tips are interesting. Poetry is way beyond a complete beginner's capacity. It's definitely not a book I would buy, but it is useful. It has a cd which is helpful for hearing correct tones. There are few exercises in the book. This book is good for people who learn by rote memorization, not practice.
