I liked the attention to historical detail, and found the main character an interesting fellow with plenty of complexity and with the misfortune of living in interesting times!

I think that lovers of the Harry Dresden novels might enjoy this.

I will be following the series now that I'm hooked!

This is pretty much a straight-up historical mystery, except for the fact that Kaille (and various others) can also work spells. The “magical” element is an integral part of the plot, and Jackson does a very good job of making it believable in an otherwise mundane “real life” world.

An urban fantasy story with a twist. Not only is it set in the past, Ethan Kaille is a departure from the normal female protagonist of the genre. He reminded me a lot of Jim Butcher's character Harry Dresden (see the book Storm Front). Great characters with a fun mix of history and magic.
