As someone who has been a seamstress and designer for nearly 50 years, I would not recommend this book to anyone but a very experienced sewer. Yes, these are beautiful bags; however, not only are many of the patterns quite complicated, the directions are not written in a clear step-by-step manner that is complete and makes sense. Also, there are several photos in the book clearly showing how to clip the pieces together, while there are NO photos demonstrating the difficult construction steps. That being said, in the appendix, there is a good resource list for hard to find notions and accessories, as well as a list of interesting, helpful websites.

totally drool-worthy bags!!
Most of the projects are complicated and require lots of interfacing, pattern pieces, and detailed stitching; however, I think it is worth it because who wants to make a bag that sits forlorn in the closet after a lot of hard work, solely because it's not professional or functional enough? This is my opinion and Lisa's. She shows this by constructing yummy bags with store-bought worthy details like grommets, metal hardware, and binding. She even suggests using laminated cotton for some of the bags.
The instructions are easy to follow, though lengthy. There is a comprehensive section at the beginning of the book, describing techniques such as a flush-zip pocket and an adjustable strap. This section is especially helpful for those new to the world of bag-making.
This book is geared towards serious bag-makers, although beginners with previous sewing experience should be able to tackle the easier (and just as cute) projects, such as the Geek-Chic iPad Case and the All-Sorts Laundry Bag.
I own Lisa's first book, The Bag-Making Bible, and am planning on buying this one. I like it just as much, probably even better!
