Animation at its very best! The Wonderland that this Japanese Alice goes to is chock-full of the cast-offs of our life, stuffed animals & old toys.. delightful!

Level of animation quality: A+ (beautiful lighting, superior [to american} backgrounds, superlative attention to detail- beats Pixar).
Characterization: Hollywood should go to Japan with their hats in hand to study from these people.
Originality: blows Hollywood out of the water! Even gives Miyazawa a run for his money. A totally unique fantasy world. A delight for children, and a guilty pleasure for the rest of us.
It's billed as YA but that's a stretch - the denizens of its fantasy world are neotenic- rounded/softened foxes, designed to reassure the under-14 set. (More proof: a main character and plot thread is rescuing her teddy bear.) Do you have, or know a pre-teen girl? Get this movie and park her in front of it- she'll love you if you do.
The last half of the movie gets a little confused because it's all battle with the evil Baron so the movie does defeat itself- it's for kiddies (and, perhaps, nostalgic teen girls) but the rapid changes/action are for (slightly) older viewers.
