Sutherland's character is a disastrous central character; it's not clear if the actor is really this tedious, or if it's the fault of Kring and Cassar in the writing and direction.
The series is saved by others (Mbatha-Raw, Glover, etc.) and by the globe-ranging premise and settings.

This series grew on me. Donald Sutherland is not my favorite actor but his son, Jake, played by David Mazouz, is the real star. Jake sees patterns and connections between events and can fantastically figure out what will happen. He only needs to convince his dad, Martin (Sutherland) to help save people around the world or make their dreams come true. Only problem is Jake is autistic and can't communicate by just telling his dad, since he hasn't ever spoken a word. Fantastical premise, but pays off with clever storylines and excellent writing.
