While I mirror the disappointment in Cassie's choice in guys, as well as a bland explanation for a certain mystery. I did find that the book fit into its genre of young adult fantasy romance.
I also disagree with the other comment that L.J. Smith would have ended the series differently, at the end of The Power Smith tied up the series in quite a similar fashion.

Must express frustration with the need of the publishing industry to take a good thing and beat it mercilessly to death. The first Secret Circle trilogy was sufficient on its own; a second one really did not need to be written, but where it was, and by a different author, there should have been a higher standard for content, or at the very least an assurance that the follow-up series would have a similar value to the first. It failed on all counts. Thankfully, there should be no more books to follow. Three was enough - books 4-6 killed the series. I feel that had L.J. Smith actually continued with these characters and written the second trilogy, things would have ended differently. Instead, the new author took a safe route and put Cassie with the predictable boring boy at the end, instead of the one who was right for her and tied everything (and I mean ALL loose ends) up in a nice, pretty, and completely dull bow. Currently experiencing a lack of faith in non-original authors who continue existing series...
