The themes of this book didn't immediately draw me, but I loved it! So well written!

The times, they are a changin'...

For young readers, this is a fun book with a sweet protagonist who is learning to deal with all kinds of change in her life.

For readers of all ages, this is a great chance to see a young person's perspective on the late Sixties.

Older readers will enjoy a blast from the past as main character Delphine plays records on the stereo and becomes obsessed with the Jackson Five.

Some of Delphine's questions (How can young Michael Jackson sing so sincerely about loneliness? Could a woman ever be president?) reverberate down the years.

After spending one crazy summer with her long lost mother in Oakland, Delphine and her sisters are back in Brooklyn. The year is 1968 and, along with the rest of the country, Vonetta, Fern, and Delphine have fallen in love with the Jackson 5. This is great slice of life historical fiction that explores what it means to be eleven years old.
