There may be technical proficiency on this album, and there's certainly considerable musicality. Still, what I'm after when I turn to jazz goes beyond the buttoned-down, and strays a bit toward letting down one's hair, something that stirs the blood--and I'm just not seeing that.
Nicely produced--this double-CD quartet, featuring a trumpet fronting a basic piano, bass, drums trio--but none of it strays from the mid-tempo.
Of course this may suit your soul, and very well indeed, so do note my perspective, what I'm after. I want something a bit wild, maybe challenging, and could not find it here.
