I judged this movie by its cover, but its personality kept me hooked throughout its entirety. A soul that has committed an unforgiveable crime is given the chance to reform by returning to life as Makato, a middle school student who attempted suicide, and trying to live out Makato's life as best as he can. This movie has absolutely beautiful artwork, and no character is one dimensional. The only reason I don't give it a full five stars is mental health isn't handled as well as it could have been, and it's a driving force in this movie. I recommend this movie for anyone, even if you don't think you like anime.

Super artistic work. The film explored Japanese teen culture, family pressure and some causes on teen suicide, a well publicized social scar of today's Japan. (The Yomiuri Shimbun/Asia News Network

Wonderfully animated movie. Reminds me of the many things that are in life that should be appreciated and look up to as opposed to being sad and moody forever. I think watching this now and then's a great reminder of life having its ups and downs.

Slice-of-life movie with a lovely anti-suicide message.

As you told Hiroka earlier,
people are not monochromatic;
they have many colors.
We don't know which colors are
real and true to ourselves.
Being colorful is good.
Please live a colorful life.
