This book is an imaginative portrayal of an unlikely event of pirates and a little girl making a connection for her birthday party. Then, they were instructed by the parrot about how to present themselves for the party. Great fun!

I read this to my preschool class and while they enjoyed the humorous scenes they didn't find it as interesting as I expected. I think that the smaller illustrations were harder to see and the lack of background given to the characters made them harder to connect with.

This book is so fun! It shows the unlikely happening of cartooned pirates on a ship receiving an invitation to a girl's birthday party, then the ship's parrot takes over to tell them that they need to get her a present, bathe, etc. ... The ending is a humorous contradiction!
