(1) What the author calls "job within a job" is simply the unfavorable aspects of the position (the common or other difficulties) for which one must also demonstrate capability in order to create a performance advantage (hence, when the going gets rough, one must prove that he/she qualifies entirely); (2) What the author then calls "hidden challenges of the job" - in the NYCity job market is called "the BOOT CAMP TEST". It's important to pass this TEST without any cheating in order to actually qualify and/or EARN a promotion rather than simply attain a promotion without having endured these spontaneous on-the-job DRILLS; (3) The chapters are very repetitive such that even with speed reading, it was sort of difficult to ferret useful tips. -BeeHunter, Reader
