The actors were magnificent in this movie. It was a little too much action for my taste--I would've liked to had more backstory, more drama about who these characters were and less adventure. I thought the cast of the Alabama were portrayed a little too favorably, especially the titular character, but I guess this is to be expected.

This is a very good production both in directing and acting. Recommend to watch.

Of all the Tom Hank films I would have to say this is on my top three. The movie is EXTREMELY intense. When I watched it in theaters my heart was beating very very fast. It is a nail biter. The acting from EVERYONE was top notch. If your a drama/thriller fan, make sure to watch Phillips next.

This is a 2013 American biographical survival thriller directed by Paul Greengrass, based on the true story of the 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, an incident during which merchant mariner Captain Richard Phillips was taken hostage by pirates in the Indian Ocean led by Abduwali Muse.
It is a multi-layerd examination of the the real incident.
The Somali pirate leader, Muse, takes Captain Phillips as hostage, and the two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when the pirates target the American cargo ship.
In the ensuing standoff, both men find thyemselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.
It is a gripping, thrilling and edge-of-your-seat drama that grabs your eyes from the start to the end.

This is a movie I really loved. I loved the movie and thought it was very well

created and would recommend the movie to anyone who wants to see a great

movie. Not only is it so well created but it was also based on a true story which

makes it even better. I found that all actors played their roles extremely well with

the same emotion and excitement of the true story. I think that Tom Hanks did an

amazing job at playing Captain Philips. He justified the role in every aspect. The

part of the Somali pirate was played amazingly. In my opinion, his role was what

made this movie so special. I found his character was by far the best in comparison

to any other. He acted even better than Tom Hanks. I would give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Captain Phillips is based on the story of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container

ship by a crew of Somali pirates. The Movie focuses on the relationship between

the ship’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips and the Somali pirate

Captain, Muse. Muse and his pirate crew capture the entire ship and take Captain

Philips and all the crew hostage. Muse has an advantage in this situation because

he and his crew are heavily armed and Philips and his crew are on an unarmed

vessel. Close to the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of

forces beyond their control.
