The "Red Wings Scenario" is proof positive that while we certainly must follow the rules of war there is a time and place for everything. A cause always leads to an effect. If the Brave need to terminate civilians with extreme prejudice to complete the mission than so be it. It's not about being better than the enemy; it's about getting the job done by doing whatever it takes to get it done. That will prove we are better than our enemies.

A tribute to a brave, well-trained and expensively equipped Navy Seals team who fell in Afghanistan and to the family of locals who helped save the lone survivor. Very well made, IMO. Mercifully, no effort to explain why the hell they were even there.

One especially troubling question that should be addressed: Afghanistan should be a mountain paradise like British Columbia rich in minerals and lumber and so on. Why do the primitives fail to harvest such resources to their advantage while begging the West for aid and asylum?

This is a 2013 American Afgan-war docudrama directed by Peter Berg, based on the 2007 non-fiction book of the same name by Marcus Luttrell.
Set during the war in Afghanistan, the film dramatizes the unsuccessful United States Navy SEALs counter-insurgent mission Operation Red Wings, during which a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team was tasked to track down and kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.
Really shocking and astounding is the re-enactment of the battles of Operation Red Wings, which is one of the most realistic depictions of the fighting.
Miraculously Marcus Luttrell is saved by some Afgan villagers, who protected him out of duty to their 2,000 year old code of honor, known as Pashtunwali.
It is a profoundly thought-provoking docudrama that will show you that war is no good at all no matter how good its cause is.

At end of movie:

The Afghan villagers who protected Marcus did so out of duty to their 2000 year old code of honor known as Pashtunwali.

Pashtunwali requires a tribe to undertake the responsibility of safeguarding an individual against his enemies and protecting him at all costs.

Marcus saved by tribal law Lokhay (from the book
Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10);

Lokhay means not only providing care and shelter, it means an unbreakable commitment to defend that wounded man to the death. And not just the death of the principal tribesman or family who made the original commitment for the giving of a pot. It means the whole damned village. Lokhay means the population of that village will fight to the last man, honor-bound to protect the individual they have invited in to share their hospitality. And this is not something to have a chitchat about when things get rough. It’s not a point of renegotiation. This is strictly nonnegotiable ... These friendly Pashtun tribesmen had decided to grant me lokhay. They were committed to defend me against the Taliban until there was no one left alive.

There is no question
a part of me will forever be
up on that Mountain, dead...
As my brothers died.
But there is a part of me that
lived because of my brothers.
Because of them, I
am still alive.
And I can never forget that
no matter how much it hurts,
how dark it gets, or
how far you fall...
