Being successful in the modern world of finance requires a more in-depth understanding of our global economies on a macro level. What does a shifting demographic cycle mean? How does the explosive growth of emerging markets matter? Why does the world's population affect my portfolio? Does the global monetary system impact my results this year? How does government intervention in markets impact my strategy? In Pragmatic Capitalism, Cullen Roche explores how our global economy works and why it is more important now than ever for investors to understand macroeconomics. Cullen Roche combines his expertise in global macro portfolio management, quantitative risk management, behavioral finance, and monetary theory to explain to readers how macroeconomics works, and provides insights and suggestions for getting the most out of their investment strategies. This book will uncover market myths and explain the rise of macroeconomics and why it impacts the readers' portfolio construction.

A great book! The author simplified the current complex economic spectrum and broke it down into its simple fundamentals, highly recommended read! However, it may help to also read other books related to core economic theory first before reading this book in order to "fully utilize" this book's rich content (banking vs fiat currency, risk vs reward, federal reserve, 2008 crisis etc.). One thing it didn't mention much about is Roth IRA, RRSP, TFSA, index funds. Additional good items to read before fully diving in to this book are those by John C. Bogle, Warren Buffet, Adam Smith, Keynesian economics books vs monetarism aside from fundamentals of market vs currency vs supply demand vs policies vs wealth of nations. In this day and age, it does not matter what field you're in, with the compounding advancement of tech, ECONOMIC INTELLIGENCE IS a MUST for every individual, learn it before it's too late! To quote another author I won't name, "No one should be retiring poor in the current economic environment! There's absolutely NO EXCUSE!"

This book is more a look at macroeconomics then investing. If you are looking for a get rich quick (or even slowly investment scheme this is most assuredly not for you. This book is an insightful look and critique at many economic myths that are widely believed. The author attempts to demystify them without a political agenda. This pragmatic approach is welcome and this book is one that should be read by anyone with an interest in how our economic world works without hysterics or ideology..
