“We are liars. We are beautiful and privileged. We are cracked and broken.” Through the tale of the Sinclairs, the author, E. Lockhart skillfully weaves a story of darkness and deception that will stay with you long after you read it in her book, We Were Liars. As the novel revolves around one summer on the family's private island, readers are left with questions that go unanswered until the end of the book, and I think for me, what made me love this novel so much was how it had an ending far from typical. Rather than ending the book in a cliché or what was expected, Lockhart delivered an ending that personified the saying “not everything is what it seems”, leaving the reader shocked as they reached the final page. Consequently, I would highly recommend that whether you are a fan of mysteries or not, you should read this book! 5/5 stars

We Were Liars is a wonderful book that captures the essence of mystery, love and pain all in the form of a teenage girl’s world. This book is my favourite thriller and is a great read for the summer. The author of this book managed to come up with such an intelligent and intricate storyline that has you grasping every word on the page. This book beautifully captured the true emotions of a good thriller and is perfect for young adults. This book is full of twists and clever turns that will have you replaying every moment of this book in your head. We Were Liars is a book to indulge in. It is rich in mystery and suspense all while remaining the balance of sophistication. I would highly recommend this book to people who love a good mystery. We Were Liars helped me experience all of the emotions that radiated from the book. We Were Liars uncovers love, hate, truth and lies. E. Lockhart's writing has opened up a new perspective for me. We Were Liars deserves the praise that it has earned. 5 stars

Incredibly well crafted page-turner. I was shocked in the end, when Cady finally remembered what happened. And, I was delighted by the incredible imagination and beautifully crafted ways the author described Cady's emotional outburst and headaches.

I didn't think this would be the type of book I would enjoy, but it was an excellent read.

This book reads as if it is narrated for / by a 12 year old. Characters were foolish, vacuous, privileged, one dimensional and ridiculously isolated from life in general. The book was boring, slow and plotless with a flat ending. You won't miss any of them upon understanding what happened. They weren't written to be missed! I know now why Amazon's 2 star reviews get the highest "helpfulness" by its readers.

Well-written. A book, I'd say, for a teen/young adult audience. It reminded me of how I viewed the young when I was only 10 years older -- "they are so black and white". This book displays that black-and-whiteness, along with a not-very-rounded view of parents and older adults.
