I grew up near Baraboo, WI, where Ringling Bros. is located, so the circus was a huge summertime activity, so this immediately intrigued me. It's an excellent book that will really make you think hard about animals in captivity.

I personally think that humans are the worst species ever to walk this planet. We have created this delusion that nature was specifically made for us. (Which it's not). We feel that we can exploit the earth and it's species because of this lie that we are more intelligent than them. And that this....thing people call "God" gave us dominion over all animals. If that is true, then we shouldn't take advantage of it by senselessly killing, and capturing animals for our amusement. This to me really makes me sick to the core that we are capable of doing this. I'm absolutely ashamed of us as a species, and me being a human myself.

In conclusion: "People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people".

It is truly heartbreaking the way so many animals have been treated cruelly, just to entertain people. I realize that, in some cases, the only surviving representatives of some species are kept in zoos in captive breeding programs but this does not excuse the continued captivity and use of other species to make money in various kinds of parks.
