Deadpan humor indeed. A kid, especially a boy, might find this a funny story with all the gross things the boy exchanges with his alien pen-pal, Clunk. I like that it encourages the exchange of both gifts and the written word. I think writing and sending letters is a lost part of our culture. The ending was however a bit abrupt. A real cliff hanger. I personally would have loved to see how Clunk used all of his Earth gifts, we know how his gifts were needed and used.
