I loved O'Brien's "Birthmarked" series so much that I was excited for her new series. However, I found this one paled in comparison. It was a quick read but it didn't hold my attention enough for me to want to read the rest of the series.

A really interesting start to a new YA dystopian series

Caragh O'Brien's writing is always beautiful and lyrical. She does a great job at creating a world full of depth and lovely characters. As a somewhat dystopian piece, this was pretty good. The pacing felt a little off in the middle, dragging slightly. The ending took a slight sci-fi flare that I quite enjoyed. Will definitely be picking up the next in the series.

Another dystopian society/school. Quite possibly the first of a second series by Ms. O'Brien. A school for artistic children. One of the rules of the school is to sleep 12 hours each night - everyone is given a sleeping pills. Constant filming shows students in real time during the day with repeated 12 hours at night. Rosie skips her sleeping pill one night and begins to suspect that there is more going on at the school at night. I can't wait for a sequel.
