This book is more of an expose` than a memoir. The state of affairs of the American Medical system as illustrated here is really sad. Unfortunately every country's medical system is headed that way. Doctors will no longer be able to get pleasure in treating patients and caring for them; instead they will become form-filling, malpractice fearing robots. An interesting if somewhat morbid book.

I didn’t read Jauhar’s Intern but I’m going to go to the library to get it. What a fascinating look at the challenges of practicing medicine in America and how the doctor’s financial life has changed. His writing is superb and gives me lots to think about. Insurance controls doctor’s lives as well as the patients. So much more time is spent recording and checking what insurance allows. How can a doctor who cares about his patients survive in a system that works on billable hours?

I left this book hoping none of the doctors in it would ever cross my path. The author complains about everything throughout the book, from his financial problems, his family, his patients, the medical system, and offers few suggestions for solutions.
