A PBS series called Secrets of the Dead. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon features a historical/archaeological/scientific explanation which is very interesting. Only 60 minutes, it features a woman who authored a book on the subject, not sure what her expertise is (history? archaeology?) but she gives a great overview and explanation. The site is in northern Iraq and not open for her to explore due to daily bombings/violence, etc. but she recruits a couple of locals to go film the area so she can review the footage and try to determine whether the area could have supported the gardens. It was also quite interesting from a scientific perspective, how did the ancients get massive amounts of water uphill to sustain the gardens? You'll have to watch this DVD to find out!

A fascinating study of the history of Babylonian empire and the revelation that the Babylonian engineers were very advanced. They had constructed huge aqueducts 300 years before the Romans. One span, needed to cross a river, consisted of one million blocks of stone.
