I'm very sorry to say, but series 7 is not as good as earlier seasons. Lewis is drawn back to the force out of retirement (as I & all followers of this great series wanted), much to Hathaway's surprise. Unfortunately, the storylines aren't compelling, and Kevin Whately just looks tired and less motivated. Stories are not fresh, though the final episode shines more than the 2 previous.

The series seemed to be running out of original ideas. May be it is transitional to ease in the new Oxford detective team. The chain smoking gaunt DI Hathaway looked harassed and listless in solving three major cases with help from the officially retired Lewis.

“Of course, hubris was classified by the Greeks as a legal term It was viewed as the protagonist's fatal flaw which leads inexorably to his ruin. However, in Greek tragedy hubris should be treated as a law. Once broken well, there's no escape from it's consequences. Oi, you idiot! "Hubris full blown climbs the precipitous height and grasps the throne then topples o'er and lies in ruins prone." "Who when such deeds are done, can hope heaven's bolts to shun?" You see, Hubris was... an insult, outrage, to the gods.”

Laurie: According to this, quality time should be measured not in minutes, but in moments.
Lewis: So, an hour here is equivalent to a fortnight in Rimini?

Hathaway: I thought you had *lots* of plans for your retirement.
Lewis: I did; I do.
Hathaway: You not enjoying it?
Lewis: Of course I am. Just taking a bit of a break.
Hathaway: You're taking a break... from your retirement.

Lewis: [about surgeon Stoke] The man had one complaint in thirty years; how many would a copper get in that time?
Hathaway: You comparing what we do to brain surgery?
Lewis: Nah. Police work's much more complicated than that.

Lewis: She found the body, so either she's part of it, or she's the key to finding out who is.
-Hathaway smiles
Lewis: What? It makes sense, doesn't it?
Hathaway: No, it makes perfect sense. You remind me of someone I used to work for.
