Apollo Greaves, Viscount Kilbourne, who has been falsely accused of murder, escapes from Bedlam and hides out in the ruins of an old theater until actress Lily Stump moves in and passion sparks between them.
"Falsely accused of murder and mute from a near-fatal beating, Apollo Greaves, Viscount Kilbourne has escaped from Bedlam. With the Crown's soldiers at his heels, he finds refuge in the ruins of a pleasure garden, toiling as a simple gardener. But when a vivacious young woman moves in, he's quickly driven to distraction... London's premier actress, Lily Stump, is down on her luck when she's forced to move into a scorched theatre with her maid and small son. But she and her tiny family aren't the only inhabitants-a silent, hulking beast of a man also calls the charred ruins home. Yet when she catches him reading her plays, Lily realizes there's more to this man than meets the eye. Though scorching passion draws them together, Apollo knows that Lily is keeping secrets. When his past catches up with him, he's forced to make a choice: his love for Lily... or the explosive truth that will set him free."-- From back cover.

Not a particularly exciting read. The romance was lukewarm with no lasting impression. There was a bit of a transitioning problem in the storyline as events unfolded rather abruptly.

The story seemed recycled as I've already read a story by a famous HR author of a wrongly accused aristocrat and a character with two different coloured eyes this year. Coincidence or is it something talked over beforehand? I'm imagining the author puling out little paper pieces from a box with characteristics written on them to make up the story, the entire thing seems put together with as many quirks as possible.

I found The Minotaur mini story more enjoyable and the scenes with Phoebe and Trevillion throughout the book and in the next book's premise had me more excited than the entire book of Darling Beast. Though I'm a little put off that the blind, fat girl is to be together with the lame man their personalities are wonderfully different and the friction between them is sure to set something on fire (hopefully me ;-) ).
