"Four friends creep through the woods, and what do they spot? An exquisite bird high in a tree! 'Hello birdie,' waves one. 'Shh! We have a plan,' hush the others. They stealthily make their advance, nets in the air. Ready one, ready two, ready three, and go! But as one comically foiled plan follows another, it soon becomes clear that their quiet, observant companion, hand outstretched, has a far better idea. Award-winning author-illustrator Chris Haughton is back with another simple, satisfying story whose visual humor plays out in boldly graphic, vibrantly colorful illustrations."-- Provided by publisher.

Candlewick Press publishes so many of our favorite kids' books, and they were kind enough to send over this book.

Have you ever been in that meeting where everyone is making a Big Important Plan, and you're saying "hang on, there may be a problem!" and NO ONE is listening? This book is exactly that meeting, except it's funny because it's not real.

The text is simple, so even the littlest kids will be able to follow. But at 40 I was entertained watching each questionable scheme being set up by the three big people, who all ignore the little team member, and my seven year old cracked up as each plan fell apart.

This would be a great young kiddo gift, especially if the kid in question has adults in their life who appreciate good graphic design! The color is so rich, and the character design so quirky.

Haughton's collage-inspired illustrations, filled with various shades of blue, give the wooded setting a lovely sense of mystery. The hunters are a bit reminiscent of the characters in Tomi Ungerer's classic picture book, The Three Robbers.

Four friends - 3 quiet, 1 loud off for an adventure in the woods. They do have a plan but the loud member of the group has a unique approach that leads to surprising results. I think my Family Story time will love this one.

Cute book, talking about different approaches to accomplish the same task with a surpirse ending. Simple illustrations and love the bird and squirrel drawing.

In this book, a little person greets a bird, but the three with him say, "shh, we have a plan." The plan is a way to capture the bird. The little one tries again and again to greet the bird while the others try different ways to capture the bird unsuccessfully. The little one finally has the right idea by offering bread crumbs to the bird. More birds flock to the bread crumbs. When the three people try to capture one of the birds, they get chased off causing them to again change plans.

The text in this book is very simplistic which makes it perfect for the very littlest ones and early readers. The story is full of dry humor. The older ones think they have a smart plan, while it is the little one who knows the best way. The illustrations are very different. Most is colored in hues of blue as on the front cover, but the birds are vibrantly colored. The storyline is very short making this less appropriate for older children who would want more. The final page will leave you laughing.

Ages 3-7. The 6-7 year olds will enjoy the dry humor.
