"This book, based on research on and transcripts of the Nixon, Johnson, and Kennedy White House presidential recordings as well as other contemporary sources, reveals for the first time the origins of the 'Plumbers' (the Special Investigations Unit) and Nixon's policy of illegal break-ins for partisan political gain, which led to Watergate, its cover-up, and Nixon's resignation. One of the most informative books I've read in quite a while. It brings together Nixon's treasonous undermining of Lyndon Johnson's Vietnam peace initiatives with Nixon's subsequent obsession with eliminating any documentation of his treason. The irony is that such documents didn't exist let alone that the documents were in the hands of "liberal" conspirators.

If you still don't understand Watergate, especially if you've read larger books on the subject, Chasing Shadows will bring everything into focus in 228 pages...

Important history that everyone should understand. Unfortunately the facts have taken 30 years to emerge as the LBJ and Nixon tapes finally get released to the general public. Nixon was the most disgraceful president ever and this book documents the 'Chennault Affair' which Nixon was trying to purge with his Watergate and Brooking Institute burglaries. Nixon was trying to eliminate anything that might interfere with his '72 reelection, like the facts about Candidate Nixon' treasonous acts in 1968 sabotaging LBJ's Vietnam Peace talks by negotiating with the South Vietnamese Government through Madame Chennault - a violation of the Logan Act. Much like Candidate Reagan did 12 years later by negotiating with Iran.

This is a most excellent book. Be sure, if possible, to read this in conjunction with, or concurrently for full effect, the book by investigative journalist, Robert Parry, entitled, America's Stolen Narrative - - most enlightening! [Robert Parry correctly described almost exactly where Osama bin Laden would be found - - 7 years prior!]
