Opinion

From Library Staff

In 1895, eleven-year-old Stan travels with his mother to work in a lumber camp. He endeavors to survive his older cousin (a girl!), the wrath of his granny, his over-active imagination, and any other thing that could prevent him from proving that he is a man (and not just a boy).

The lumber business is the reason Bytown (Ottawa) exists. This book will bring that history alive for young students. Stan and his cousin, Geraldine, get up to all kinds of mischief at the lumber camp. All of the historical photos add to the enjoyment and make it seem more like an actual scrapbook Stan is keeping. The best news of all--a sequel is coming in Summer 2016!
