I have read a number of books on North Korea and found it fascinating to read a firsthand account of growing up in this horrific regime. It is miraculous that Joseph made it out alive and am thankful he could share his story so that the true conditions can be made known to the world.

Engrossing. Could not put it down; Read it in a day. Filled me with gratitude to have been born in the U.S.

No disrespect intended to refugees of any oppression anywhere, but this book just didn't sound legitimate. eg, the author and his family 'ran out of food' several times and yet stayed alive for months, if not years. I believe one can die from thirst in about a week, and without food for what - a month? Just doesn't ring true to me.
