SUMMARY: Bobbie's cousin has come to visit, but her room is so full of stuff, there is nowhere to play. Her mom gives Bobbie two weeks to get rid of some stuff before she does it for her. First, Bobbie comes up with a glamorous room plan. But her mom says she can't buy anything for the room. Then she gets the idea of bringing home cool stuff that is being thrown out. The problem is, she still hasn't gotten rid of anything and her room is now so full, her cousin refuses to play with her. Bobbie goes to her mom for help. Mom helps her decide what to get rid of and how to repurpose the found items to make her room look glamorous. The end result is funky, but clean.
ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created digitally. They are colorful, fun, full of life, and have plenty of details.
REVIEW: I loved this book from start to finish. Learning how to keep your stuff to a minimum does not come naturally, and this book does a superb job of teaching children how to do it. I love how Mom gives Bobbie a chance to figure it out on her own and says she will make the decisions if Bobbie does not. Some messes seriously come down to this kind of ultimatum. Bobbie tries it her own way and fails. But then she gets the smart idea of asking for help. That's when the real teaching begins. Bobbie learns to make piles of what can go and what can stay. She learns how to make old stuff new again. In the end she gets a room that fits her personality. I highly recommend this book, especially before your child must clean out her room.
