This book is interesting if you like American history, particularly the 20s. Since it is written as a diary, there are a lot of references to what's happening in the U.S. at the time. Katherine "Kitty" becomes a waitress when she finds out she can no longer go to college. The Harvey Girls were seen by some as scandalous night workers, but in reality, they were hard-working girls who woke at 5 to serve passengers off the train. I liked it because I had never heard of the Harvey Girls before. However, plot wise, it's a bit boring. The secondary characters' stories are more interesting than Kitty's. Recommended for teens and adults.
