I wasn't sure when I watched the first episode whether this DVD set was for me, but I kept going and found I enjoyed all remaining five episodes. Found Cenk (pronounced Jhenk) a very compelling character and the actor who played him impressive in the role. Definitely worth watching if you like a good action drama that also makes you think.

Outstanding show: no Sunday picnic in the park and no big laughs, but lots of fast-paced gripping action and stomach churning plots.

Not a typical “Season 1“ but a compilation of episodes from a long-running German cop series that had Cenk Batu as the main character. Of varying quality but generally well written, despite some annoying plot inconsistencies. Episode 5, the assignment to infiltrate a terrorist cell, is especially interesting and timely. Particularly liked his reply to the snooty female psychologist: “This isn’t about 'spirituality.' This isn’t about Islam.”

Gets better by the third episode. Tense and well acted.

You don't really get much sense of 'the gritty city' in this cop series. I watched only the first episode, which was not sufficiently interesting to inspire going further. But this is marginally better than American cop show equivalents in this genre.

Worthwhile police stories and fresh to see a Turkish immigrant playing lead in the German Tatort crime series. Some of the cases, Batu was uniquely qualified to go undercover (see quote.) BTW, pilot is 7 years old:

E1. On the sunny side, 2008
E2. Urban warfare, 2009
E3. Forget me not, 2010
E4. A life for a life, 2010
E5. The path to paradise, 2011
E6. The ballad of Cenk & Valerie, 2012

Best review in an European TV web site. See link in "Summary."

This is one of the best police crime series I've watched in a long time. Very well acted. Intense and exciting. I highly recommend watching.

Cenk was made for the job in some cases:

Dept head to Cenk:
You know the Koran? Your grandpa took you to the mosque? ... Do you know who read your application back in 2001? The person who thought they'd give you a chance? ... Do you know these words? "I want to be an undercover investigator because I want to be face-to-face with crime." or "I hate militarism, martyrdom, and hero worship." That's what you wrote back then. Now you have the chance to do something really great. Cenk, go ahead and assume that ... You're young, and Muslim. You don't have a family. And you don't have anyone waiting for you."
