Told from alternating perspectives of Trevor (the guy) and Everly (the girl), both 17 years old). Their worlds are falling apart simultaneously. After going through a period of lust for each other (cue those raging teenage hormones!), they soon realize they are falling into deep, lasting love. After a major medical incident, Trevor gets cold feet, thinking he will never be worthy of Everly's love. He covers it up by being a jerk (or in his words, "major douchebag") to Everly.

Don't worry, this book isn't nearly as gushy and cliche as I'm making it sound. Trevor and Everly both have their respective quirky best friends in their corner (Link and Hailes, who are likewise dating) to provide comic relief.

When Everly's mom suspects Everly's dad is cheating on her, she consumes far too much wine at dinner and makes a big fuss over how her husband should sample her "chicken salad" more often, and why doesn't he like her "chicken salad" anymore, and surely he doesn't like someone else's "chicken salad" more!!! Everly is mortified, knowing full well this rant isn't just about her mom's cooking.

Without being overly preachy, Trevor sings a song near the end about a man's love for his mother and God. Do with that what you want, but I think the author wants us to know that real men love God and their mothers.

Well worth a read!
