ATL refers to the airport designation for Atlanta. That's where orphaned 17-year-old Rashad lives with his younger brother Anton and uncle George. They're poor like most Southside families, but they're making ends meet, caring for each other and forging life-long friendships with guys like the smart, ambitious Esquire, transplanted New Yorker Brooklyn, and likable homeboy Teddy. On Sunday nights they hang at the Cascade roller rink where the guys try to impress the girls with their latest moves. As these four friends prepare for life after high school, different challenges bring about turning points in each of their lives.

I'll turn the mic over to the great Shawn Edwards of FOX TV: "A totally off-the-hook crowd pleaser." Yeah, this is a fun one. "ATL" (that's Atlanta for you rubes) merges the coming of age 'hood film with the, um, competitive skating movie. Apparently, that's a thing. There's another movie about it called "Roll Bounce." Anyway, rappers T.I. and Big Boi star and both bring their natural charisma and swagger to their roles. The whole cast is good and the movie, while not very original, has a lot of energy and a nice sense of place/environment. Unsurprisingly, the soundtrack is full of Southern rap. You should also check out "Dope." Warning: There are very few white people in this movie.
