The latest non-fiction book by one of my favorite authors. Perfect for the times.. explains what "fake news" really is, stories that are demonstrably false, but which are promoted by people with monetary clout who figure that the majority of people won't bother to know or look up the true facts. Furthermore, this book makes it clear that our society has been dumbed down by expecting to find everything on Google, Wikipedia etc. The problem Poundstone makes clear is that if people get lazy and look up *everything* that way, they lose context and are easily misled. People need a basis to their belief system independent of a search engine. It's called an education, and it is vital to our society that we don't minimize its value.
