We never know what will happen next in Florida. We know only that, any minute now, something will. Every few months, Dave Barry gets a call from some media person wanting to know, "What the hell is wrong with Florida?" Somehow, the state has acquired an image as a subtropical festival of stupid, and as a loyal Floridian, Dave begs to differ. Sure, there was the 2000 election. And people seem to take their pants off for no good reason. And it has flying insects the size of LeBron James. But it is a great state, and Dave is going to tell you why. Join him as he celebrates Florida from Key West at the bottom to whatever it is that's at the top, from the Sunshine State's earliest history to the fun-fair of weirdness that it is today.

I am a Florida transplant and LOVED this book. There were so many locations that I had either been to or am familiar with. There were parts of this book that I actually was crying laughing so hard (the shooting range). I would highly recommend this book if you're looking for a good laugh. If you're a Florida native, you may just find it funnier.

If you are a Dave Barry fan, and who isn't, reading this book will be a true pleasure to you. Dave Barry's perspective and ability to provide interesting people and places to read about are, IMHO, without peer.
If a statistical study of Dave Barry's books were done I know that it would reveal that an average page of a Dave Barry book contains 4.7 laughs for the reader.
Put this together with the fact that laughter is the best medicine and it indicates that, for your own good, you should read this book. Of course this statement only confirms what you already know.

A mash-note to all things Ticky Tacky Florida, Barry visits the Weeki Wachee Mermaids and goes ahunting for the Everglade's elusive skunk ape.
He also tours Cassadaga, a village full of psychics (and has his dog's fortune told), and drags his cousin off to a gun range where they proceed to shoot all manner of machine guns.
Full of photos (probably shot on Barry's own cell phone) and rated with Mold-A-Matic machines ratings (spoiler: machine guns top all), Barry's lunatic adventures provide a welcome getaway for cold Ohio winter's day.

Underwhelming. I expected more wacky incidents and characters like "Bum" Farto, the former fire chief of Key West.
